Certified Nursing Program provides NEW skills and employment

Since 2008, 42 local public housing students have completed course requirements, successfully tested and received certification, thanks to a partnership between the United Way of Henderson County, Henderson Community College and the Housing Authority of Henderson.  Fifteen students each year during 2009 and 2010 have had the opportunity to enter the local health-care workforce.

Individuals like Dale Buckner, who now is employed by Medco Center of Henderson says,  “The CNA program is great!  It allowed me to complete my training, get first hand clinical experience and secure a new job right here in Henderson.  It changed not only my life but my family’s.”  All this has been made possible thanks to a grant from the United Way of Henderson County to the Housing Authority of Henderson through an initiative aimed at targeting and reducing unemployment. Many graduates have gone on to work for Methodist Hospital, Redbanks, St. Anthony’s Hospice and other local employers.

Beginning in May, we again will be offering the six-week class at no charge to public housing residents.  If you’ve ever dreamed of beginning a career in health-care contact Donna Rigsby at 270 631-0747 or drigsby@hahenderson.org to get an application.

Thanks, United Way of Henderson for helping us make a difference in our local community.
