High fives! Housing Authority richly earns them "It's very unusual for a housing authority of this size to have such a great score from HUD." -- Pat Hoban-Moore, regional public affairs officer in the Atlanta office of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Let's hear it for Executive Director Bobbie Jarrett and her staff at the Henderson Housing Authority for their perfect score in the week-long HUD inspection that took place in May. That score is unprecedented in the state of Kentucky for housing authorities with multiple developments, said Don Clem, director of the Office of Public Housing at the HUD field office in Louisville. As Clem elaborated in a letter to the authority, "This score places you well above the national average and indicates the inspector found the overall condition of the authority's grounds, buildings and units to be in perfect condition according to the inspection protocol. "That's saying a lot, considering that Jarrett and her 38-person staff are responsible for the oversight of 430 housing units and 649 subsidized units under the Section 8 program. In all, that oversight spans about 3,000 residents. As typical of Ms. Jarrett, she says the credit is due to "the great staff we have here. "It's also a very telling testament to her leadership and her conviction about prudent use of public funds. "If they're giving you those dollars they expect you to be responsible," she told The Gleaner. Ms. Jarrett, who also is an active participant in other facets of the community, clearly takes her public housing leadership responsibility very seriously. The latest HUD scorecard is proof positive of that and we join the community in saluting her and her staff. High fives all around!
